Establish a Youth Council to Drive Civic Engagement
From "Proposals: empower your community to drive change"
Go to the project

Engaging young people in civic activities is critical for building a future of informed, involved citizens. This proposal recommends creating a dedicated Youth Council where students and young residents can propose initiatives, offer feedback, and collaborate on local projects. The council would meet regularly with public servants and contribute to important city decisions, particularly those that affect younger generations.
By giving youth a platform for their ideas and concerns, this solution would create a stronger connection between young residents and local government.

I believe this is a great idea. The youth should be able to get involved more often in these decisions

Engaging youth in civic activities is so important, but we should also make sure the council members receive some training on leadership and public speaking. It can be intimidating for young people to express their ideas in front of adults, especially city officials, so providing them with tools and mentorship would help them feel more confident and empowered to make a difference.

Creating a Youth Council is a wonderful idea! Younger residents have unique perspectives, and it’s crucial that their voices are heard in community decisions. That said, I think we need to make sure this council is diverse and truly representative of all neighborhoods, including those that may not have had strong youth representation in the past. It might help to partner with local schools, youth organizations, and community centers to spread the word and encourage participation.
